Modifying the Flow Stress
- It was known (and intended) during the B31G criterion development that the representation of Flow Stress as 1.1 SMYS was conservative.
- It was later shown that the Flow Stress can be shown to be more closely represented by: S = SMYS + 10,000
- This change is significant for all grades of pipe strength but more pronounced for the lower grades.
