Modifying the Flow Stress
It was known (and intended) during the B31G criterion development that the representation of Flow Stress as 1.1 SMYS was conservative.
It was later shown that the Flow Stress can be shown to be more closely represented by: S = SMYS + 10,000
This change is significant for all grades of pipe strength but more pronounced for the lower grades.
