Thrust at Blow-Off

This is used for purging or venting gas from a pipeline, compressor, meter, or regulator station piping.  The piping blows down to atmosphere, whereas it is required to calculate the thrust force at the outlet of the pipe where fluid expansion takes place.

F – Thrust force, pounds
Q – Flow rate, MCFD
D – Diameter of opening, inch
G – Fluid specific gravity
P – Pressure downstream, psig

Input Parameters 

  1. Select the Thrust at Blow-Off application from the Steel Pipe – Design and Stress Analysis module.
  2. Enter Case, Project Name, Location, Date, and any necessary notes.
  3. Fill out all required fields.
  4. Make sure the values you are inputting are in the correct units.
  5. Click the CALCULATE button.
 
  • Pipe Description (Pipe Type, Outside Diameter, Wall Thickness, and Internal Diameter)
  • Fluid Properties (Internal Catalog, Fluid PT or User Defined)
  • Pressure Downstream (psig)
  • Flow Rate (MCFD)

Outputs/Reports

  1. View the results.
  2. To SAVE, be sure to fill out all project details then click the SAVE button.
  3. To generate a REPORT, click the REPORT button.
