Adiabatic Bulk Modulus of Hydrocarbons
The bulk modulus for a liquid is defined as the ratio of a change in pressure to the relative change in volume. Common uses for the bulk modulus include:
- Calculation of the speed of sound for liquids, which useful for applications where pressure waves are important like dynamics modelling and surge analysis.
- Determination of the lag in response time for hydraulic systems.

𝐾𝑠 − Adiabatic Bulk Modulus
𝑃 − Pressure (psig)
𝑇 − Temperature (°𝑅) = (℉ + 460)
𝐴𝑃𝐼 − API gravity of liquid @ 60℉
𝐴 = 1.286×106
𝐵 = 13.55
𝐶 = 4.122×104
𝐷 = 4.53×103
𝐸 = 10.59
𝐹 = 3.228
